Well as this is the first review for the blog I guess i better make it a good one!
Let start with a picture so you know what im talking about. Introducing the MP5/MP4 Player with touchscreen/camera + FM Radio:
As you can see the initial menu includes 9 initial icons which all carry out different functions. Touching some of the icons shows the screen appears surprisingly responsive, one light touch provides an instant response.
Video
I decided to jump straight in and try out the video playback. Now one of the main features of the MP5 player over a normal MP4 player is the ability to copy/transfer over video files in a variety of different formats without the need to preconvert. Now I had a sample Real Media file which I was dying to try out, so I literally dragged and dropped from pc to the extra drive that had appeared since connecting by usb, into the ‘video’ folder. Then disconnected the player to play the video. No problems at all as you can see below:
The onscreen touch fastforward/rewind play/stop buttons are standard and simple to use, simply tap the screen while the video plays and the buttons appear underneath the video.
Music
Sound quality + volumne when playing MP3s is pretty impressive for such a small player provided you have a decent pair of headphones. Bass levels are decent whilst clarity is pretty good. Similair to the ipod menu layout you can browse by artist/album/song etc. When playing a song you will see a nice little levels graphic:
It also has 8 preset Eq’s (8 Presets EQ modes: Natural, MSEQ, Rock, Pop, Classic, Bass, Jazz) plus a custom user eq, aswell as playing modes Once / Repeat once / Play all / Repeat all / Intro.
And this little gem is not restricted to just MP3s it will also play WMA, WAV, WMV, OGG, ASF & ACT.
Gaming
This feature is often overlooked when advertised though it shouldnt be ignored. Most people arent aware you can play Nintendo Roms on this player, which opens up a huge range of games which are easily downloadeable from the net. Dont beleive me? Check out the screenshots below, thats right that is Mario and Metroid!:
Build Quality
Build quality is pretty good for the price, very light and easy to carry around. These often come with a free silicone case which adds that extra bit of protection for peace of mind.
Ive copied some pictures below showing the player from different angles:
Summary
In summary this player is a fantastic device, it has many other features not reviewed here such as the ebook reader/fm radio and fm radio recording/voice recording features. And lets not forget you can expand this bad boy up to 8gb with a micro sd card. So at the price of £35.99 you cant go wrong really. You can get it for only £35.99: MP5/MP4 Player TouchScreen/FM Radio £34.99.
Feel free to add your comments, im always looking for feedback. And id love to know if people are actually reading this or if im just babbling away to myself
