UBM TechInsights who carried out analysis on the new Kinect Hardware for the Xbox 360 have revealed that the price of parts when stripped down is only £35 in total. Thats one hell of a jump from the RRP of £135. Not a bad profit margin that!
It includes chips made by PrimeSense Ltd, Marvell Technology Group Ltd., Texas Instruments Inc and STMicroelectronics NV.

EETimes quoted Allan Yogasingam, UBM TechInsights technical manager “Basically, the strength of the design is the huge design win for the Israeli fabless company PrimeSense,”.
The analaysis carried out by UBM TechInsights also describes some of the technology used according to EETimes “The Kinect includes four audio microphones on the front console that pinpoint where a user is standing by auditory projection”.
Kinect detects motion with use of a single infrared camera plus two image sensors. Interestingly Allan Yogasingam also commented on the use of the technology for changing channel on TV sets “I can see this being incorporated into televisions—allowing users to chang the channel by waving their hand, essentially replacing the remote control.”.
Kinect which was released earlier this week is set to become a christmas favourite for xbox 360 fans along with the Call Of Duty Black Ops release from Treyarch. Kinect was produced with the aim of tempting some of the many Nintendo Wii fans to switch to Xbox 360, im sure that time will tell..
